Cost of mining ether
Currently we've seen reports mentioning that the electricity cost (hardware not included) would be anything between 0.30 cents (US dollars) to $3 depending on location and hardware efficiency.
Today, after a nice "bull run" from 68 cents, ETH price is $1.81. It will be a wild ride.

Price of Ether Q3 2015 as it hits exchanges
At this point at 90GH/s.
In a few hours it will be possible to send and receive ether as the network "matures". It will be interesting to watch the price of ether when it hits the exchanges. Currently cost of mining ether is said to be anything between $1 and $3 dollars but that can change when the network is fully up and running and more miners jump in and mining becomes more competitive.
It was also announced that the network will change from PoW (Proof of work) to PoS (Proof of stake) in about a year time so during this first PoW phase we can expect some market fiat price volatility.
Hopefully we can soon see some decentralized exchange where we can trade ETH for bitcoins and other crypto currency with some peace of mind and not worried about some Mt. Gox type of mess up.

Block #1028201 will be formed on the Ethereum tesnet and given a hash. It is still early days. All we know at this point is that you will need a GPU with at least 1 GB of video memory however 2 GB minimum would be ideal for the first year of mining.
This is the first ever photo to emerge of an ether miner. It was posted by one of the Ethereum developers on the official forum. At this point GPU mining is 100x more efficient than CPU mining.
In a few days the Frontier release will go live and it will be possible for more technical participants to start to mine real ethers.
